  • How long do roofs last?

The amount of time a roof may last varies depending on the roofing material used. Shingle roofs typically last between 25 and 30 years, while slate, metal, and tile roofs last considerably longer. Generally, metal roofs can last between 40 and 70 years, and slate and tile can last 100 years or more with regular maintenance.

  • How can I tell if my roof needs to be replaced?

There are several signs you can look out for that may indicate your roof needs to be replaced. Watch out for the following:

    • Dark patches or bald spots
    • Curling or missing shingles
    • Sagging or drooping
    • Moss growth

If you see any of the above, don’t hesitate to contact us for a roof inspection.

  • What’s the best type of roof?

It's hard to say what type of roof is the best because it depends on your property and budget. Based on price and performance, asphalt shingles are a great option. If you have a higher price point, you should consider wood shingles, metal, slate, or tile.

  • If my roof leaks, do I need a whole new roof?

You do not need a whole new roof unless the roof is past its prime. We typically only need to repair the affected area, and the roof will be good to go for the rest of its lifespan.

  • How long does it take to replace a roof?

It usually takes as little as a day or two to install an asphalt shingle roof. Other materials like metal or tile may take up to a week or more, depending on the job size.

  • What is the cost of a new roof?

New roof pricing varies based on the roofing material and job size. It usually ranges from $5,000 to $11,000. In some parts of the United States, the high-end figure can be up to $45,000.

  • How can I get an estimate?

Contact us for a no-obligation estimate. We can assess the job size, materials, and labor costs so we can provide you with a detailed estimate.

  • How does roof pitch affect durability?

Roof pitch is its angle and how flat or high it sits. Low-pitch roofs generally accumulate water build-up, causing them to wear faster. Higher-pitch roofs have better drainage and typically fewer issues down the road. Please note that pitch affects only certain roof types. Some roofing systems, including torch-down roofs, will always have a low pitch, whereas asphalt roofs should be built on a higher pitch.

  • What do you do to protect a home temporarily after a storm has damaged a roof?

At A & K Roofing and Gutters, we use various preventative measures to prevent the roof from leaking. We will patch holes, secure water-damaged areas, and fasten waterproof tarpaulins if necessary. After that, we can work with you to develop a detailed action plan to provide a more permanent solution.
